Tonight, as a family.
No debate.

“What are we watching?” With several people, the question can last longer than the movie. With kids, the answer also has to suit their age. Kanap makes the call for the whole family: one gem and three alternatives, picked from your subscriptions, never above the youngest child's age.

One profile per person, that's it

In the app, open “Duo or family”, then “As a family”. You create a profile for each member of the family; on the night, up to six watch with you. For a teen of 16 or older, or an adult, two genres they like are enough. For a child under 16, their birth year is enough: their tastes are optional. Nobody but you needs the app.

When the evening comes, tick who's watching

Tick the people who are there and pick a format: a movie, an episode, a doc, or surprise. Kanap matches everyone's tastes and serves one gem, with three alternatives in case it doesn't fit. Before you start, the screen says who it's for and for what age: “For you, Leah and Tom · suited to age 8”.

Never above the youngest child's age

With kids aged 8 and 13, Kanap picks at the level of the 8-year-old. The age filter applies to profiles under 16: from 16, a profile counts as an adult. Each title's age comes from published age ratings: the French and American ones first, the German and British ones as a fallback, and Kanap always keeps the strictest. Why not the French rating alone? Because its “all audiences” rating also covers movies that the United States rates PG-13 or higher.

With the birth year alone, Kanap assumes the youngest possible age: a child born in 2018 counts as 7 in 2026. A title with no rating is never suggested. When the choice gets tight, Kanap relaxes the length, the format, then everyone's tastes, but never the age. And if nothing is left on your platforms, the screen says so instead of cheating.

Only on your platforms

Kanap picks from the subscriptions you ticked: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Max or others. No catalog to dig through: what it suggests, you can start tonight. Kanap decides, your platform plays it.

What we keep, and what we don't

For a child, Kanap only asks for a first name and a birth year, plus their tastes if you like: no full date of birth, no photo. They have no account and no access to anything. Profiles can be edited or deleted at any time, and they go away with your account. Only the youngest viewer's retained age, without a name, is kept with the suggestions in the engine's logs. The details are in the privacy policy.

What Kanap is not

Kanap is not a parental control: it locks nothing and doesn't watch the titles for you. An age rating is a published guide, not a review of every scene. Kanap is meant for parents, who keep the final say.

On the TV too

Family mode is also in the Android TV and Google TV app, on the remote, in front of the screen you're about to watch.
